New Faculty Member: First Steps

Before your First Day
- Accessing SPU's Banner system and setting up SPU email account (must be done before given access to Banner/Percipio).
- Check out the campus maps.
- Learn about parking locations and regulations on campus.
- Check out the SPU Dining Services site to find places to eat and get coffee on campus.
- Reference the Faculty New Hire To Do List to help keep you on track.
On or Before your First Day Tasks
- I-9 form - The purpose of this form is to authenticate both the employee's identity and eligibility to work in the United States. HR is required to have this form completed by the first day of employment. The form must be signed with HR personnel and original forms of identification (not copies) viewed at the time of completion. See page 3 for list of acceptable identification. Email hr@1010an.com to set up a time to complete your I-9 ahead of orientation or come by HR on your first day of employment.
- W-4 form - the purpose of this form is to determine the appropriate federal income tax that is to be taken from one's pay. Please complete the W-4 form online through the Banner system.
- Personal Identification Data sheet (if not previously completed) -This form is used for internal purposes only, in order to correctly set the employee up in HR's computer systems.
*To save time on orientation day, the I-9 can be completed before your orientation date, in Human Resources. HR is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm and is located at 330 W Nickerson Street.
First Week Tasks (prior to orientation if possible)
- Accessing SPU's Banner system and setting up SPU email account (must be done before given access to Banner/Percipio).
- Enroll in Azure Multifactor Authentication.
- For information on using Microsoft Teams, including setting up your voicemail, please see this link on the CIS wiki site.
- Faculty/Staff ID card - obtain from Falcon Card Services
- Set-up your direct deposit
- Set up your emergency contacts and sign up for SPU-Alert
- Complete the required online compliance trainings
- Adjust White Pages display information
- If you are not/were not able to attend New Faculty Orientation in the fall, please stop by the Faculty Life Office to pick up a hard-copy of the Faculty Handbook and to also sign the Faculty Handbook Receipt Acknowledgment.
- New Faculty Orientation normally falls in the first week of September. For more information about orientation, please contact Lucy Israel at (206) 281-2003 or at israell@1010an.com .
